Khon Kaen is the working capital of the northeast — Khon Kaen University and Srinagarind Hospital anchor it, and the city functions the way a provincial capital of a million-plus catchment does, with a business calendar that has nothing to do with tourism. That is what makes it a real MICE city rather than a resort with a meeting room attached: KICE, the Khon Kaen International Convention and Exhibition Center, was built with a pillar-free span and a reinforced floor engineered to take farm and industrial machinery, not just a trade-show carpet. Its own materials describe a large indoor exhibition hall with substantial grounds outdoors alongside it, several multi-purpose halls, and further meeting rooms — but no seated theatre or banquet figure for any single space, so that specific number is a question for the sales office, not an assumption.
Around KICE sit three convention hotels that between them cover most of what a group actually needs: a modern high-rise ballroom (Pullman), a large hotel-branded convention hall left over from a well-documented Centara-to-Avani rebrand, and Kosa, the older of the three, whose value is in several function rooms running at once rather than one big one. Pullman and Avani both publish real seating numbers by layout; Kosa publishes room areas rather than seating capacities, which still leaves Khon Kaen better documented than most other cities in this deliverable.
Getting There
Khon Kaen International Airport (KKC) is well served for a secondary city — Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia and Thai VietJet between them run several hundred flights a week from Bangkok, at a flight time a little over an hour. Most delegate groups fly in directly; regional attendees from smaller Isaan towns drive. There is no meaningful case for routing a Bangkok-based incentive group through Khon Kaen by road.
Best For
Academic and medical congresses (the university and hospital supply a natural attendee base), agricultural and industrial trade exhibitions in the one hall built to take the weight, and any B2B event that needs real square metres rather than a hotel ballroom dressed up as one. It is not a leisure add-on: there is no beach, no hill town, nothing scenic to bolt an incentive evening onto, and a client retreat looking for a set-piece moment should look elsewhere.

Orchid Ballroom One is the hotel's largest single room — 517 sqm, seating 240 theatre-style or 320 for a banquet — and splits into two further ballrooms next door (270 and 220 banquet respectively) if the whole floor needs dividing. The hotel sits in the middle of Khon Kaen, an easy walk from Central Plaza, which matters more here than in a purpose-built centre: delegates eat, sleep and meet without a shuttle between any of it.

Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre

The property operated for years as Centara Hotel & Convention Centre Khon Kaen before a rebrand to Avani; the convention hall's own published figures — 1,690 sqm, an 8-metre ceiling, 2,000 theatre-style or 1,200 for a seated banquet — come from the Centara-era fact sheet, so it is worth confirming current numbers with the hotel directly rather than assuming nothing moved at the rebrand. It remains the largest hotel-based convention space in the city.

Khon Kaen's older convention hotel, and it shows in the room count rather than the finish: several separate function spaces rather than one large room, led by the 810 sqm Mongkut Petch alongside Mongkut Ploy (320 sqm), Mongkut Ngern (140 sqm), Mongkut Tong (102 sqm) and a further 192 sqm room. Useful where a conference needs several breakouts running at once.
