TCEB designates the province of Songkhla as a MICE City, but almost every real MICE conversation about it is actually about Hat Yai — the commercial city an hour inland from Songkhla itself, and the province's genuine population and business centre. Songkhla city, the administrative capital on the coast, is quieter and does not feature in this deliverable's venue list for that reason. Hat Yai's pull is its position: the Malaysian border is close enough that day-trip and short-stay business travel from Penang, Kedah and beyond is routine, not a novelty, and it gives cross-border trade fairs a real catchment that Bangkok cannot offer as directly.
The flagship venue is ICC Hat Yai — the government-anchored convention centre TCEB counts as the largest MICE facility in southern Thailand, and the reason Songkhla appears on the ten-city list at all. Its own site, though, stops at floor plans and service descriptions rather than a seated-capacity table, so no theatre or banquet figure for it appears here. Beyond ICC, the city's hotel meeting rooms are a mixed picture: one, Centara, publishes real numbers; the others did not return usable data from their own sites.
Getting There
Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) runs a decent schedule of flights from Bangkok — Thai AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air among the carriers — at a flight time of roughly 80–90 minutes. The city is also reachable by road from Malaysia, about an hour to ninety minutes from the border checkpoints, a genuine option for delegates coming up from Penang or Kuala Lumpur. Songkhla city itself is a further 25–30 km from Hat Yai.
Best For
Cross-border trade fairs and regional exhibitions that lean on the Malaysia/Singapore catchment, and provincial government or civic conferences. It is not the choice for a group wanting a beach-resort backdrop — that is a different brief, better served on Koh Samui or in Phuket. Hat Yai is a working commercial city, and the honest sell is proximity to the border, not the view.
