The Journey
Rest, without a chart
The Rejuvenation is built on land, and built deliberately without a clinical component — no tests, no consultation rooms, nothing that asks you to arrive as a patient rather than a guest. It moves from the Lanna hills above Chiang Mai, where a therapist works a wooden mallet along the muscle lines in a technique found almost nowhere outside northern Thailand, to a tented camp above the Ruak river in the Golden Triangle, and finally south to a holistic retreat on Koh Samui built around a cave once used by monks for meditation.
Three landscapes of the same idea: movement, treatment, and food that changes with the region rather than a fixed programme designed to be identical everywhere. The final three days, at Kamalaya, are left almost entirely open. That is not a gap in the planning. It is what the retreat is for.
"No one handed me a form to fill in. They asked what I wanted the mornings to feel like, and then they built the week around the answer."
A treatment in progress — northern hands, an old technique
Day by Day
Your Private Itinerary
A framework, not a fixed programme — the final three days are left open on purpose. Your SALA curator tailors every detail.
Chiang Mai
Two nights in the hills above the city, given over to the northern massage tradition and a dawn walk through a forest temple few visitors reach before the tour buses do
Days 1 – 2
Chiang Mai — Lanna Hands
Chiang Mai · Mae Rim
You arrive into the hills north of the city, where rice terraces run down from the resort's pavilions and the pace of the week is set from the first afternoon. Northern Thailand has its own massage tradition, distinct from the Bangkok style most visitors know — tok sen, in which a therapist taps a wooden mallet along the muscle lines rather than kneading them by hand, and luk pra kob, the steamed herbal compress pressed into the body while still warm. A dawn visit to Wat Umong, the forest temple whose brick tunnels and tree-hung proverbs sit largely empty before mid-morning, and food that is regional rather than the hotel-Thai found across the country — nam prik num, sai ua, and khao soi cooked the way this valley cooks them.
- Arrival and settling into a rice-field pavilion at Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai
- A tok sen session — a wooden mallet worked along the muscle lines, a technique native to the north
- Dawn at Wat Umong, the forest temple with its tunnels and tree-hung proverbs, before the crowds
- Northern dishes — nam prik num, sai ua, khao soi — rather than hotel Thai

Golden Triangle
A tented camp above the Ruak river, where the hills of three countries meet, and a jungle worked with the local elephant foundation rather than a show ring
Days 3 – 4
The Golden Triangle — Jungle and River
Chiang Rai · The Mekong
A short flight or drive north to a tented camp set above the Ruak river, close enough to the point where Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet that the hills of all three are visible at once from the terrace. Days here move between a hilltop spa and jungle walks through forest that has not been cleared for the camp's presence. Elephants are part of the landscape rather than the programme: the camp works with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, and every encounter is observation only — no riding, no bathing, no performance. That distinction is not incidental to the itinerary; it is the point.
- Transfer north to Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, above the Ruak river
- A jungle walk through forest surrounding the camp
- Time at the hilltop spa
- Observing elephants with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation — no riding, no bathing

Koh Samui
Three days at a holistic retreat built around a cave once used by monks for meditation, with almost nothing written on the calendar by design
Days 5 – 7
Koh Samui — The Long Exhale
Koh Samui · Laem Set
A flight south trades jungle for the Gulf coast and Kamalaya, a holistic retreat built into the hillside around a cave once used by monks for meditation. The therapies here draw on traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda rather than a single house style — breathwork, sound sessions, and treatments chosen to the individual rather than a fixed menu — and the kitchen works from plant-forward, nutrient-dense cooking throughout. The three days that follow are deliberately left almost unwritten. This is not a gap in the planning. It is the reason the itinerary ends here.
- Arrival at Kamalaya Koh Samui and an orientation session with a retreat therapist
- Meditation in the cave once used by monks, still at the centre of the property
- Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic treatments, tailored session to session
- Breathwork, sound, and plant-forward meals, with three days left almost entirely open

What's Included
Curated Experiences
-
Private Transfers & Both Internal Flights
Every move between Chiang Mai, the Golden Triangle, and Koh Samui handled end to end, including both internal flights, so the retreat is never interrupted by logistics.
-
A Lanna Therapist Sequence
A run of sessions with a northern therapist across the Chiang Mai stay, built as a sequence rather than a menu of one-off massages picked from a spa list.
-
The Tented Camp, All-Inclusive
Meals, jungle activities, and the hilltop spa at the Golden Triangle camp run on an all-inclusive structure, so nothing at that stage needs to be arranged separately.
-
Nutrition-Led Food Throughout
Dietary needs taken in advance of arrival at every stop, from the northern kitchens of Chiang Mai to Kamalaya's plant-forward menus on Koh Samui.
-
Elephants Observed, Never Ridden
Time with elephants at the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation is observation only — no riding, no bathing — in keeping with SALA's standing position on how these animals are encountered.
-
Days Deliberately Left Unwritten
Three days at Kamalaya carry no fixed programme. Your SALA curator holds the space open rather than filling it.
