Early morning (before 8am) or the last hour before sunset, when the light on the water is best and the canals carry local traffic rather than tour boats — the middle of the day is hotter and busier.
What to Expect
A traditional wooden longtail boat, engine mounted on a long propeller shaft, moving through Thonburi's residential canals rather than the main river — wooden stilt houses, small canalside temples, and a slower, more domestic side of Bangkok than the skyline suggests.
How to Prepare
Boats have no shade canopy on some routes, so sun protection (hat, sunscreen) matters even on a short trip. A dry bag or waterproof phone case is worth having — wake from passing boats can splash in. Life jackets are standard safety equipment; wear the one provided.
