Best Time to Do This
Arrive at opening, around 8am, before the heat and the tour-bus groups arrive. The cool season (November to February) makes the walking between temples far more comfortable than the April–May peak of the hot season.
What to Expect
A quieter, less-visited temple than the Grand Palace circuit, entered on foot through the old city's narrow sois rather than a car park. Expect bare courtyards, working monasteries with monks going about an ordinary morning, and long stretches without another visitor in sight.
How to Prepare
Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter any Thai temple — a light long-sleeve layer and trousers or a long skirt travel better than trying to borrow a sarong at the gate. Shoes come off at every main hall, so slip-ons beat laces. Bring water; there is little shade between temples.
