Best Time to Do This
Weekday mornings outside the November–February peak give the most solitary experience among the ruins; the site is genuinely walkable year-round since it's mostly flat, open parkland rather than jungle-covered ruins.
What to Expect
The ruins of Thailand's first capital, 13th–14th century, spread across open lawns and reflecting ponds rather than densely packed like Ayutthaya — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the temple ruins' relationship to open space and water was part of the original design. Renting a bicycle to cover the wide grounds is the standard way to see it.
How to Prepare
A wide-brimmed hat matters more here than almost anywhere else in Thailand — there's little shade across the open historical park. Bicycle rental is available at the entrance and is genuinely the most comfortable way to cover the site's scale.
