A Quieter Temple for the Grandparents

Chiang Mai

A Quieter Temple for the Grandparents

Best Time to Do This

Late morning on a weekday, after the earliest monks' alms rounds but before any tour groups arrive — cool season keeps the courtyards comfortable for an unhurried pace.

What to Expect

A temple chosen for calm rather than scale: benches in the shade, flat and even walking surfaces, and a working monastery quiet enough to sit in rather than just photograph. Expect far fewer steps and stairs than the hilltop temples like Doi Suthep.

How to Prepare

Shoulders and knees covered, shoes that slip off easily at the entrance, and a hat or fan for the shade-free courtyard crossings. Bring a bottle of water — few temples sell drinks inside the grounds.
