Best Time to Do This
November to February is the only realistic window for a comfortable hike — the summit area sits above 2,500m and can drop close to freezing on winter mornings, while the rest of the year brings heat lower down and heavy rain higher up.
What to Expect
Thailand's highest point, with trails ranging from an easy boardwalk loop through mossy cloud forest near the summit to longer, steeper routes lower on the mountain. The twin royal pagodas near the top are the most-photographed stop, but the Ang Ka Luang nature trail just below them is the quieter, more rewarding walk.
How to Prepare
Pack real layers — a fleece or light down jacket for the summit, shed as you descend into the warmer valley air. Solid closed shoes for the boardwalk's wet planks and any of the longer dirt trails. A park entrance fee applies and is paid in cash at the gate.
