Best Time to Do This
Year-round, though cool season (November to February) mornings are the most comfortable for the walking and river-bathing involved.
What to Expect
A working elephant camp built around care rather than tricks — feeding, bathing, and walking with elephants that no longer perform or give rides, many rescued from the logging or trekking trade. Mahouts (elephant handlers) explain each animal's history and the daily routine of feeding and health checks.
How to Prepare
Clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy are essential if bathing is included. Move calmly and follow the mahout's lead on distance — these are still enormous wild animals, however gently they're cared for.
