What to Expect
The point where the Mekong and Ruak rivers meet and Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar all become visible from a single spot — historically the heart of the opium trade, now marked by viewpoints, a giant golden Buddha statue, and river-crossing boats to the Laos side.
How to Prepare
A passport is needed if crossing into Laos or Myanmar territory, even for a short boat-based visit — check current cross-border rules before planning that extension. Otherwise, the Thai-side viewpoints need no more than comfortable walking shoes and sun protection.
