Best Time to Do This
Just after sunrise, ideally in the cool season (November to February), when the forest temple's grounds are at their quietest and coolest for the walk among the tunnels and old brick chedis.
What to Expect
A 700-year-old forest temple built into a wooded hillside, known for its underground brick tunnels lined with old Buddha images and a large lake where locals come to feed fish and pigeons at dawn. It's one of Chiang Mai's most atmospheric, least commercial temples.
How to Prepare
Standard temple dress (shoulders and knees covered), plus mosquito repellent for the wooded, shaded grounds. The tunnels are low-ceilinged in places — mind your head.
