A Herbal-Compress Workshop, Made by Hand

Chiang Mai

Best Time to Do This

Any season — this is a shaded, mostly indoor or covered activity, well suited to an afternoon during the hottest months when outdoor sightseeing is least comfortable.

What to Expect

Learning to bundle a traditional Thai herbal compress (luk pra kob) from fresh ingredients like lemongrass, turmeric, kaffir lime leaf, and camphor, then steaming it and using it in a short massage demonstration. It's as much a hands-on herbal-medicine lesson as a spa treatment.

How to Prepare

No special preparation needed beyond comfortable clothing; the compress is applied over fabric, not bare skin, in most workshops. Note any skin sensitivities to specific herbs — turmeric can stain light fabric — before the session starts.
